Abstract
Pottery is an important industry for livelihood in civilized society since the long early time of human society. The Neolithic era marks the beginning of pottery production. The pottery industry in India has recently been promoted as a significant cottage industry by both small and large pottery organizations. During these times the technologies were changed according to the necessity of human society. New products were adopted by using new technologies to sustain their lives more comfortably. Though the pottery industry was one of the important occupations of a huge population in early times, the industry is now being loosened its importance due to the competition in the market. In Chaltaberia village of Duttapukur, West Bengal, the potters started making many innovative pottery products using new technologies. The present study aims at understanding the initiatives taken by the potters to sustain the pottery industry.
